Our Curriculum Intent

At Skidby Primary School, we are keen for our children to develop an excellent education of knowledge, skills and understanding, through a curriculum that instils our school’s vision and values throughout enabling children to access and enhance their understanding of their home, their village and the wider community. We ensure that our children receive their entitlement to the National Curriculum through meaningful, enjoyable, rich and relevant learning experiences, developing their cultural capital and giving them opportunities and choices about their future and their impact as they progress through their school career and beyond.

Through clear strategic planning, our curriculum provides not only memorable experiences but is rich in opportunities from which the children can learn and develop transferrable skills. Key topics and individuals are all planned carefully with our vision and values, as well as our community being a key influence in our decision making.

Our curriculum provides a range of opportunities for children to develop their knowledge and skills. Children will access learning that promotes taking responsibility of their own learning, as well as showing responsibility within their local and wider community. The children will be able to work collaboratively with peers to encourage one another and build one another up to develop a strong desire to embrace challenge to become resilient learners. We also enable our pupils to become good citizens and demonstrate an appreciation for others throughout our community being respectful and showing tolerance and acceptance to those from different faiths and backgrounds.

  • Our curriculum aims to prepare all children for the next stages in their education.
  • We use ongoing assessment to ensure our children achieve well.
  • We also ensure that our children have the skills they need to be successful members of our modern British society learning about the following core values; Democracy, Rule of Law, Individual Liberty, Mutual Respect, Tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs.
  • We believe these aims will develop us spiritually, morally, socially and culturally, therefore helping to prepare us for the next challenges and opportunities in our lives. These values are experienced throughout our everyday school life.
  • Our school aims are at the heart of our curriculum.
