Subject Key Objective Progression and Development by Year Groups

The following is a guide to help you understand your child’s progression through school.

All lessons are differentiated. This means teachers plan activities that enable the objective to be learned by all children including those who will find the objective challenging, those children who with hard work will secure good progress and those children who can tackle extra stretch and challenge in this subject.

EYFS

Children are beginning to recognise the main events in bible stories.

Year 1

Children are beginning to understand the main events in bible stories.

Year 2

Children are beginning to understand the bible stories recognising the traditions from which they come.

Year 3

Children are beginning to understand and describe the themes within bible stories.

Year 4

Children can describe and explain the themes and morals within bible stories.

Year 5

Children can demonstrate an increasing understanding of the themes and morals that run through bible stories. Also, they are beginning to show an understanding of the symbolic meaning of images and objects within them

Year 6

Children can confidently demonstrate sound knowledge and understanding of the themes, morals and symbolic meanings of objects and images within a range of bible stories.
